Initial Terms of the Competition

Competition Rules

Viceroy Coin Art 2020 is a competition open to everyone of any age to create an artwork which can be in any medium, style, format, without limit; however it must take its inspiration from a coin/coins. To qualify for the competition and be exhibited the Artist must follow the guidelines below. Any variation must be agreed in writing.

Artists Guidelines

The Artwork SHOULD

  • contain at least one coin
  • contain an image of a coin/s
  • portray a coin/s in some form

The Artwork MAY

  • be made of or contain in part physical coin/s
  • depict a coin/s in any manner
  • be a visual, graphic or video

The Artwork MUST

  • in some way be inspired by a coin/s
  • present an image of a coin/s
  • follow in some manner the theme
  • be transportable in a standard 40’ container
  • be delivered within the agreed time limit

The Coin May be

  • from any country, region and place, be that existing now or not
  • from any period and time
  • it should be from the official mint or state/regional organisation of its period
  • any variation from above must be agreed to qualify

VCA will supply coins to artists but…

  • Supply of Numismatic or (High Value) coins is only by agreement
  • Numismatic coins CANNOT be damaged in any way.
  • Numismatic coins will usually be added to artwork at each exhibition
  • Low Value coins will be supplied by agreement.
  • Low Value coins CAN be treated in any way, manner as artist sees fit
  • Excess coins must be returned

Entrant Eligibility

The competition open to everyone of any age to create an artwork which can be in any medium, style, format, without limit; however it must take its inspiration from a coin/coins, coin stories/histories and current theme.

There are two age groups of Under 18 years or Under 11

Under 18’s will not be entered into the Grand Prize but will be able to win heats and the U18 Finalist will win a significant package of prizes in line with their age and promoted on the world stage.

Open entrants must simply follow the guidelines published. Multiple entries are allowed but only one per artist will be allowed into the judging of the Grand Final.

How To Enter

In the first instance an artist must simply fill in the form on our website and will receive our information package.

This will clarify our Guidelines and basic Terms & Conditions of participation.

I would very much like to then to talk to all contestants if possible, English, Spanish or German, are my languages, and discuss possible avenues, coins or questions/aims the artist may have.

Once the artist has understood and accepted the T&C’s then I or my agents are always available, and indeed pleased to discuss any inspiration, issues or problems the artist may have.

Deadline

The closing date for the competition will be 15th June 2020. This will allow time for initial judging and reducing the number to be judged for the Grand Prize.

Judging

All judging will be by respected independent industry professionals for the Grand Prize.

There will be various categories.

All artworks must be photographed in High Resolution as per the T&C’s and submitted by email.

Once accepted the physical artwork must be sent to us as per our T&C’s to be judged and short listed.
